It's hard for me to say because I like a lot of things from different games.
I like the original Digimon World because it felt more like being in the digital world than later games. You know, having one partner digimon and having to actually take care of it like a V-Pet while you traveled.
But I also like Digimon World 3 for all the new Digimon you can change into and the spritework is great, though the 3d sprites are a bit dated by todays standards.
And I like the newer games like Digimon World DS and Dawn/Dusk because there are so many ways you can digivolve, but I don't like that they went even more Pokemon by letting you collect data from other digimon to create your own army. The digimon feel less personal when you can just get as many as you want and that was something I liked from other games.
And if you get into MMO's, Digimon Masters is fantastic. I hate that all the starting digimon are based on the newer ones from the series, but you can start to get other Digimon. It's been a while since I got to play because my old laptop stopped working, but I have a SkullSatamon, WereGarurumon, and I believe Terriermon was my new partner.
So what games do you guys like?

Ill admit I'm torn.
Digimon World 1 was my first, and it really does simulate the one trainer one partner relationship. I also loved slowly building the village and inviting more digimon into the town. But i could never fish out that slippery Seadramon!
I like the digimon Dusk/Dawn games because it made choosing between your favorite digimon not nearly as difficult. It also allowed for a larger possibility of digimon to choose from, which is nice if you happen to like a digimon who isn't one of the most popular ones. However I do think they need to rethink how to capture/obtain digimon, it just seemed boring/unimaginative to constantly kill one digimon till you get 100% data for it.
I do hope however the new one that is getting ported to 3ds is brought over to america. Unlikely, but hopeful.
Overall I wish for something thats a balance between the two. You have a large selection of digimon with many different digievolution posibilites, but still hold the raising/bond aspects it started with.

I never had a PS1 so I didn't get to play the first World games until much later (and poorly emulated...) so I'm going with the DS games, including Championship (But not the one that wasn't translated)
I also have a soft spot for the GBA Battle Spirits.
In terms of story tho, the Wonderswan games win.
I owned Digimon World 4 too but that's pretty much my least favorite ever.

I just remembered the Digimon Rumble games! I'm surprised I forgot them. While they weren't the best Digimon games, they were fun, especially the second one as it was very similar to Smash Brothers to me.
I still remember the first time I beat Reapermon, such a satisfying kill.

If you mean Re:Digitalize: that one is a PSP exclusive... or is there yet another NEW game coming out? O: --- Digimon World (PS) hands down! Man, the frustration trying to raise a MetalGreymon as a kid with minimal English knowledge. The joy when I finally got him 4-ish years after (gave up several times inbetween). However I wouldn't replay it though. I've the frustration caused by the game, 'cause tbh DW were and still is hardcore, implanted so deep within I'd probably throw out my PS/PS2 outta the window. XD I also love the WSC game Brave Tamer to pieces and bits! 'tis the only real reason I studied Japanese to begin with... XD

Ug I wish they kept the 3ds region code free like they did with the ds. There are a lot of fun games just like this that don't make it across the ocean.
Though I am disappointed that skullgreymon nor blackwargreymon are not optional partners in the psp game (there adding more to the 3ds one but i doubt they'll make the cut).

Yeah it caused some excitement when first announced cause it was made to be more like digimon world 1. Unfortunately the variety of possible partners is still similar to digimon world 1, with the exception that you can reach mega.

Rumble Arena 1 Fond memories of spamming moves and my friend yelling at me. <3 RA2 (also known as Smash Bro Brawl was fun.) But they called Calumon Culumon. Lol Battle Spirit was good too, but the music was really 8-bit-ish. I played World 2 and 3 but didn't complete them. I have no PS1 now.
