Also, dont wake up your digimon; that caused me to not regain DP its not the just fact that you wake it up, but because you wake it up before it can gain 8 hours of sleep.
you need 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep to regain DP..

It did sleep for 8 hours after I woke it up, it slept, for some reason, until 11AM. It still did not get DP. I would just advice to NOT wake it up if you dont want to have to do the pill trick.

Switch the time zone will also cause the same problem(personally tested many times) exp. your partner naturally sleeps at 10pm(22:00)and you change the time to train, your partner's dp bar will not recover.
However if you let your partner naturally sleep and suppose to wake up at 8am and you wake it up at 7am with time zone switching, you will still have your dp bars recover the next day.
