In this fan-made Digimon CCG you will tame Digimon to fight your opponent and their horde of pendulum monsters. The goal in the game is much like many other strategy cards, reduce your opponents life from 20 to 0. In this game, you tame Digimon and play Option cards to enhance your combat. Borrowing from Kaijudo and Duel Masters, any card in your deck may be played once per turn from your hand to your RAM area as a single MB to be used to pay for cards. Unlike those other games, there is no color system so you may play any card in your deck. To get awesome Digimon in this game, you have to play specific Child digimon and build your deck around the different evolution trees.
We will now go over the basics of the different types of cards in the game.
Digimon Cards
A Digimon card represents the Digimon you call into battle and evolve to become more powerful. All Digimon cards have a MB Cost, a LP Value, a HP Value, a "Battle Type", three different attack powers, and attributes. Some Digimon have special abilities and Evolution costs in their text box.
MB Cost - How many MB cards in your RAM zone you must use (turn sideways) to play the Digimon. Certain Digimon to do not have an MB cost (marked as an X) and must be played by fulfilling it's evolution requirements.
LP Value - How many life points you lose when the Digimon dies by battle.
HP Value - The amount of damage a single attack has to surpass to kill the Digimon.
Battle Type - In the upper right hand corner. This determines which attack the opposing Digimon will use.
Attack Powers - These correspond with the colors of the Battle Type. If the opposing Digimon has an "A" battle type, you will use the red attack power against it.
Attributes - These cover the Digimon's level, alignment, and egg group. These have no immediate effect on play, but some card effects can trigger them.
Evolution Requirements - Some Digimon can be evolved on top of other Digimon. For example, Galgomon can be evolved from Bearmon, Labramon, Lopmon, or Terriermon. To evolve a Digimon, you must have one of the listed Digimon in play and then you must pay the amount of MB listed next to evolve. To get Galgomon, let's say you have a Terriermon in play. You then set 3 MB cards in your RAM zone to the used postion (turned sideways) and place Galgomon on top of Terriermon. All cards underneath an evolved Digimon are considered to be a single card in the battlefield.
Abilities - Effects printed in the text box supersede all game rules.
*KEY ABILITIES* Some Digimon with large effects may have some of their effect shorted by a Key Ability. A Key Ability is something can be on any Digimon, as long as it makes sense.
Quickness - This Digimon can attack on the turn it enters the battlefield.
Flying - This Digimon can only be blocked by Digimon with Flying.
Explosive - When this Digimon is deleted by another Digimon, delete both Digimon instead.
Alert - Attacking does not set this Digimon to the Used Position.
Option Cards
Options are used to change the tempo of the game, or alter combat between Digimon. Each player has three option card slots on their field, and to play an Option you must place it face down in one of these slots. To activate it, you must pay it's MB cost and flip it face up. Resolve any effects on the card, and send it to the Discard Pile. Some Options will stay in their slot after they stay on the field, but the card effect will tell you. If a card says nothing about staying on the field, it goes to the Discard Pile.
You may activate an Option in response to any other card being played, choosing to attack, completing an attack, or literally any action in the game happening. To resolve this you use a "Stack" system like in Magic the Gathering or Yugioh. This means the first card being played will activate last. So If you opponent tries to play a Terriermon and you activate Accelerator, you will draw your 2 cards before the Terrier enters the battle field. This same system works with any Digimon's effect as well.
Deck size is 40 cards and a maximum of 3 copies of any card with the same name. At the start of the game, both players draw 5 cards and there is no maximum hand size.
Turn Order;
Reset Phase - Reset (turn upright) all of your cards that in the used position to the unused position.
Draw Phase - Draw a card. The player going first does not draw a card his first turn.
Main Phase - You may do any of these in any order during your turn. Play a Digimon card. Set an Option card face down. Once per turn, at any time during this phase, you may play a card from your hand to your RAM Zone as MB in the unused position.
Attack Phase - Attack with your Digimon one at a time. Digimon that were not evolved into play cannot attack on the turn they come into play, but they can block.
End Phase - Resolve any effects that trigger at the end of the turn.
Start at 20 Life and repeat until one player's life is reduced to zero or their deck runs out of cards.
How does combat work? A Digimon that was played from your hand to the field cannot attack on the turn it comes into play, unless it was evolved. When you want to attack with a Digimon you turn the attacking Digimon to the used position (sideways) and chose one of two targets. The first target is to attack your opponent directly. All Digimon deal 1 LP of Damage to the opponent on a direct attack, unless noted otherwise in the Digimon's effect box. The other option is to attack an opponent's Digimon in the used (sideways) position. Your opponent may chose to block any attack with one of their Digimon in the Unused position, a blocked attack redirects the attack to the blocker and the blocker is turned to Used position.
When two Digimon battle you take your attack power corresponding with the enemy Digimon's battle type. Compare the two Digimon's power and the one with the higher power wins the battle (this matters as some effects trigger on a won battle). If either Digimon's power is higher than the opposing Digimon's HP, the opposing Digimon is sent to the Discard Pile and the owner loses LP equal to what is printed on the killed Digimon. This is called Deleting a Digimon.
KEYWORDS:
MB - Cards placed into your RAM Zone, used to pay the MB Cost of Digimon, evolution, or Option Cards.
Unused Position - A card that has not taken an action and sits up right.
Used Position - A card that has taken an action is put into the used position, or turned sideways. This is known as tapping in Magic the Gathering and Duel Masters/Kaijudo.
Reset - Turning a card that is in the used positon to the unused positon. Known as untapping in other games.
LP - Life points. Each player starts at 20. All Digimon deal 1 LP on a direct attack. You lose LP equal to what is printed on your Digimon when they are Deleted.
Delete - A Digimon is deleted when a Digimon it is battling with has an attack power equal to or higher than it's HP.
